Mailboxes within the Cliffs at Keowee Falls South are required to be uniform in style and design.  The requirements can be found here. The mail box itself is required to be Copper (Some boxes that have been approved have a different base metal but are coated with copper so that the patina is consistent with the guideline requirements.)  The size of the copper mail box is not specified but is to be proportional to the rest of the post and base construction.  A copper cap is required on the vertical post end and the base is to have a 2′ x 2′ natural stone base with a stone cap with ledge. The post is to be 6″ x 6″ and have a newspaper slot below the mail box. The overall height is to be approximately 5′ tall.

Placement of the mail box is a collaboration between the US Postal Service and the Cliffs ARB.  The US Postal Service will ultimately determine if the location can be in front of your home or be required to be placed on the closest alternate road.  The US Postal Service has denied placement on the road immediately adjacent to the driveway when the common drive or roadway does not have sufficient area for the driver to turn the vehicle around without backing up.  In those cases the Postal Service has required the box to be placed on the closest main road where mail is already being delivered.  The ARB reviews the location to make sure the placement does not infringe on access of a neighboring property owner to their own lot.
